The Mike Schuler trail is a connector trail that gets you to the Bump-n-Grind trail.
When the City of Rancho Mirage closed access to to the Bump-n-Grind trail to the public the City of Palm Desert stepped up and the Mike Schuler Trail was developed.
While in Palm Desert take Fred Waring Drive west until it dead ends at Painter's Path Drive. Turn left and drive a tenth of a mile or so and you will see trail going up hill to your right (west). Find a place to park and take a look at the trails. You will be behind the Desert Crossings shopping center.
At the trail head you will see that you can go to the left or to the right.
If you go left you will be on the Hopalong Casidy Trail and this trail will connect with the Herb Jeffries Trail that will take you to the Bump-n-Grind Trail.
If you go right you will be on the Mike Schuler Trail.
Take the right fork and the Mike Schuler Trail will intersects with the much wider Bump-n-Grind continue up the hill. While hiking up the Bump-n-Grind trail you will see where the Herb Jeffries trail intersects and you can go down that way to you vehicle.
The Mike Schuler trail is about one mile and is a nice up and down hike.
If you do want to make a loop to the top of the Bump-n-Grind I suggest you go up on the Hopalong Casidy to the Herb Jeffries to the Bump-n-Grind and then come down the Mike Schuller.
Round trip up to the top and back to the parking lot is about five miles.
FYI: Mike Schuler is a trail builder and has built most of the trails in the Palm Desert area for the City of Palm Desert.
Be prepared and have fun.
