This year, the Forest Service will be waiving day-use fees across the country on three separate occasions this year.
U.S. Forest Service that the “Forest Service waives fees every year to encourage more Americans to get outdoors and experience the wide array of recreation opportunities provided on our forests and grasslands. We hope that these experiences on our lands will foster a lifelong appreciation and stewardship of precious natural resources.”
In 2012, the day-use fees will be waived on:
- National Get Outdoors Day – June 09
- National Public Lands Day – September 29
- Veterans’ Day Weekend – November 10-12
Though about 98% of Forest Service lands don’t require day use fees, a few areas of the country do.
Looking for a place to visit on one of these fee-free days? The Forest Service has put together a really cool interactive map that displays the locations closest to you. Just type in your location and all Forest Service areas within a given radius will be displayed, with links to more information.
