Hiked on the North Lykken Trail today. I entered the trail from the Palm Springs Museum parking lot and walked up to the picnic tables then headed south and exited at Ramon Road. Walked Ramon to Cahuilla back to the museum parking lot. About three and a half miles in about two and a half hours. Met a least a dozen people on the hike. I gave one guy some erroneous information telling him the South Lykken Trail started on Ramon but it starts on Mesquite Road. Hope I did not screw-up his day too much. Sorry man.

It has been a while since I went for a hike. Today I up Murray hill with a friend. We started from the Rim Rock shopping center on Highway 111 that is close to the border of Cathedral City and Palm Springs. Take the dirt road up to the water tower and then keep on going up. We worked our way over to the Eagle Canyon Trail and them to the Clara Burges Trail (old Schey’s Trail) and then up Murray Hill. Our starting elevation was about 300 feet and the top of the hill is right at 2,200 feet. Spectacular views at the top. Always take plenty of water – I went through 5 quarts – and your camera. About 7 miles round trip. This is not an easy hike. Murray Hill is often referred to as Murray Peak because it is very steep. There are picnic tables at the top so rest a while and take in the views.
